I'm looking at a 2000 F350 with the 7.3, 2 inch lift in the front, 2 inch air lift in the back, chipped and aftermarket exhaust (115,000 miles).
The guy wants $14,500, does this seem reasonable? Are there any thing in particular that I should look for? It's in excellent visual shape and seems to be free of mechanical problems.
My personal opinion is that I would look for a truck that has not been modded. Yes, having a chip and exhaust on it already is fun, the truck is faster than stock, but you wont be able to stay out of the pedal. Fact is, the person who owns it now probably doesn't stay out of the pedal since he has the mods on it, causing undue wear and tear. Now, i know that is not necessarily true, but when looking at buying vehicles I think worst case scenario and what problems may lie ahead. The 7.3 motor has been a favorite of the ford guys for years and a good motor, but you do not know the driving habits of previous owners and who has done what else to the truck. Also, with the lift components you do not know who may have done the work, if they are competent or not and if you run into troubles you have a new to you truck that is down and out.
On the other hand, If the person has receipts of who did what work, all the information about the truck and will tell you the answer to every question you ask quickly and honestly then that can be a different story.
I may sound a bit bitter, but when buying vehicles I have found that buying a stock vehicle leads to better results, then you can do whatever you want to it and know everything about what has happened to it.
Just my .02 some may share and some may not share my opinion, but it takes all kinds to make the world go round!
I would rather buy a truck that has not been modded, but I can't seem to find many F250/350 superduties that are 4x4 and have a manual trans. I like driving a stick and they just aren't around much anymore that I can tell. After meeting the individual and seeing the truck, I'm not too worried about the wear and tear aspects of buying an already modded truck. The guys garage was neat, clean and organized, he knew all of the details about the mods, etc. I'm more just wondering if the pricetag looks ok for what he has to offer.
