figured this was a good a place as any to ask. My womans car (93 or 95 eagle summit) was fine one night when i drove noticed it was making a higher pitch noise then what i thought was usual in the first few gears. Jump in it the next day and now its popping itself out of 1st 2nd and reverse while accelerating it will stay if you hold and does it worst in first gear. Anyways any of you have any idea what the deal is? I'm hopping for something easy and not the syncros going bad. Its a front wheel drive car with a mitsubishi engine if that matters at all.
Oh, it's a Mitsubishi. The trans is bad. But seriously, what is probably happening is the bearing on the main shaft or counter shaft are gone and letting one end move out of tolerance. The torque of the engine is enough to shove the shaft over and pop it out of gear.
This, of course, is just a guess. No matter how you look at it, you have to pull it apart and look in there to see what happened.
Seriously, get rid of it and buy ANYTHING other than a Mitsubishi. They are the worst built car on the road and are junk when they come off the assembly line. This is just a 30 year veteran mechanics opinion, however. Take it how you want to.
