I bought the longer stems from Mid-Fifties for my 53. They'll allow an interior door panel to be used. You might have to go that route.

aftermarket
Guess i'll look for some aftermarket handels. I really don't want to take my door panels off and risk messing them up. ANY IDEAS ?

Don't you just pop the clip into the handle and then push it on until the clip seats?

If your escushions are like my 55 your could cut the rubber till it's only the base left for the metal to rest in against the door panels; I had to do that when I has 1/4" oak door panels.
