As I was leaving to go to work I started the truck with the clutch in and in first. As it started it lurched forward. I could not get it out of gear without turning the engine off. I've had a problem with this for the last couple of weeks and thought it was due to my missing plastic bushing. Last Friday I went to ford to get said 8 dollar little piece of plastic and my clutch worked as advertised for the ride home. What I discovered once I got home today that if I rapidly pump the clutch I can get to disconnect but it is very close to the floor. I called ford for the price for the pre bled kit and it is now 250 bucks. It was 108 when I bought it 3 years ago. Any ideas before I spend more money on this truck?
Have you changes the clutch fork yet? there was an update in early 2000 might be a weak clutch fork.
good luck
Barney
I bought the truck in 05 with 254k on it. I know that I have not changed the clutch no idea what the PO did though. It came to MD from TX. A local shop wants 480 bucks to install new clutch. I dont have a shop to do it in or I'd do it myself.
You can get the slave and master cylinder separate and install it. Its no big deal to bleed the system while you install it. If its a bent fork it will not work until you change it.
If you want it, PM me your name/address and I'll send you my good used master/slave "on the house." It worked in Oct when I pulled it to troubleshoot my clutch. It's probably got 100-150k miles on it but it works good and doesn't leak.

Thank you very much for the offer Andy! This is the first time I've had a chance to get on the computer (with a fast internet connection) for a very long time. Thank you again for the advice the other night, I can't afford the trans yet, I'm going to swap my clutch out first and see what difference that makes.
No problem, I hope the clutch solves the issues. Since you don't know the history on the clutch and it has at least a 100,000 miles on it I'm guessing it's going to look pretty bad. Like Dan said when I posted the pics of mine, "just replace everything." Sound advice. You may not find something actually "wrong" with the clutch though. I really didn't. I just felt a little jolt and heard a little click and my pedal action was up high, not down low in a typical clutch problem. Anyway, it'll feel good getting the new parts in there. Let us know what you end up doing with the pilot bearing/bushing.
I'm thinking of using the used hydraulics on my '64 Ford Falcon convertible with the 289 and Toploader... Might have to mock that up and see what it'd look like. Linkage just leaves a lot to be desired.
