i am in a long quest to eliminate as much road noise and wind noise as possible...
kinda sucks when i get into a newer truck and the wind noise is hardly noticeable
i know for road noise i will need some sound deaden er and do the whole cab and probably undercoat the bottom of the cab
but the wind noise is what kills me the most my doors dont sag and they arent warped up so i wonder if new gaskets around them will get rid of the sound...
Keep in mind you need to kill engine bay noise with something under the hood. Maybe something on the firewall... I put CDL tiles in my 88 on the hood, fenders, firewall, inside the doors, inside on the fire wall, the roof, and behind the seat... It helps quite a bit but if you are serious you have to add the MLV & CCF like my buddy did. PS I'm not sure how much the Lizzard Skin helped him in the 85... I think he still wanted to do more and did the SDS stuff after not being please with the Lizard skin
PS: check your door seals if you have tons of wind noise...
:P ill check those and see what the deal is with them... i know its old and aerodynamic as a loaf of bread but ive been in older chevys with not as much noise
read that web site... I actually came up with a few good ideas after reading it. I bought a roll of E-Dead off line to do the CLD tiles with. I think the next step will be getting some sound deadening material from Home Depot to use under the carpet and up the inside of the firewall... I've heard and seen tons of different noise cancelation ideas... LOL in fact just the other day I caught my Dad saving some thick carpet pad to put in the 83... LOL!!!!
i gave my door gaskets a light coating of motor oil to help them "plump up" and seal better. i was having some wind noise issues and it seemed to help out.
I filled the door seals with some round 1/4" closed cell foam rods. Made a difference for awhile but I've noticed the noise starting to come back. I wasn't able to get it all the way into the hole in the door seal by pushing. This time I'm going to thread a guide wire through to help.
A bad adhesive job on the windshield will make a lot of noise too. The windshield frame can rust which will make noise. A good windshield tech can repair small damage and replace the trim clips.
All of my Ford trucks have made more wind noise than my GMs. but they run longer.
:P hmm i figured more people would have some insight on this... or at least some opinions....
i did look at my seals and the front top where it curves down at like a 45* angle for the windshield pillar... kinda flatish... i can get 1/2" surgical tubing to fit that i think... maybe run some 3/8" inside the 1/2".... idk ill figure something out...
