I'm looking to keep the stock suspension on my 53 but remove every other leaf spring or replace with upgraded leaf springs and bushings.
Now my idea is this, can I purchase coil over shocks and replace my current shocks with them? I understand I need a few parts and some welding but it would be half the price of a 4 link rear suspension, and in theory ride better?
Or is there a shock that is just amazing and worth the money which will make the ride smoother?
If anyone has any ideas please let me know. This is my next step to work on along with upgrading the brakes and dropping off the body at a body shop to get everything working great. Also along with electrical all new
In my honest opinion it would ride worse. The spring on a coil spring setup is meant to replace the leaf spring. They are used on 4-link and other suspension setups to support and dampen the vertical loads just like a leaf spring. This is why the leaf spring setup does not have coil over shocks. You would be adding springs to your leaf spring setup in essence, causing a higher load capacity for your trucks suspension and making the ride much stiffer.
