1994 tranny problems

i have a 1994 e-150 conversion van with a aode/w(4r70w) tranny in it .The problem is it will not shift from 2nd gear to 3rd gear ,it will go in gear fine and reverse fine and shift from first good but after it hits 2nd gear thats it it will not shift again.I JUST CHANGED THE FLUID (that was very dark) and changed the filter thought that would work so, i have no idea,any help will work.thanks

I've heard those trannys have a plastic ring somewhere inside the transmission that with time, will break, causing you to loose 3rd and OD gear.

I lost count of how many times i've read people having this problem with this tranny.


It has to come out to be fixed.

Here i've found more details on it.

"The original build used a stamped washer type spacer in the pack of 3 and 4th. Once this wears it pretty much grenades and the parts for 3rd and 4th will no longer come apart."

"Ford released a update for the AOD's new parts are needle bearings to replace the washer type parts!"



Good part about the AOD's are cheap to rebuild.
