Quickie question...will a clutch for a 390 fit a 400?

i wouldnt think so, they are two different engine families. did a search at auto zone, they showed two different part numbers

Might. They should both be 12 inch clutches and interchange. But, who knows what you might find in a truck this old.

Ive heard a 390 clutch will fit in a 351m/400 bellhousing but im pretty sure you have to change the flywheel to a 390 flywheel cuz the pressure plate mounting bolt pattern is different. I could be wrong. Ive heard people do this for a 460 4speed conversion. which im gathering goodies for.
