OD shifting problems
My '01 Ranger Edge (4.0 Automatic) is driving me nuts with the shifting it does between 4th and overdrive. On cold mornings it will not shift to OD for 4 or 5 miles.
It gets better as it warms up, but is quick to downshift to 4th on a slight grade or if I touch the gas pedal. It will cruise at 55 MPH and 2500 RPMs (4.10 gears) until I "coax" it to OD by tapping the gas.
I've had two different guys run tests, no codes show for engine or trans. The only thing not original (I own since new) are the cat-back duals. Had a tune-up, plugs & wires, air filter,6 months ago. Truck has 96,000 miles.
My gas mileage went from 15.5 to 12.5. Anyone have any ideas where to look next?
