Exhausted!!

I feel really dumb and happy at same time. I installed 4pm turbo back exhaust around two years ago. Since then there has been a vibration noise. Thought it was harmonics. Got tired of it and started poking around today. Come to find out on the exhaust hangers where the post from the exhaust goes through hanger, on back side, it is pinned to keep secured to hanger. In between hanger and safety pin there is a washer on post, to give safety pin some thing to ride against. This washer would intermittently vibrate vigorously causing all the noise. Washer has been removed. Now all I hear is my 7.3 purr.

Drove me crazy every time I came to a stop. That was the only time I could hear it. To find out it was something so simple really gets me. Oh well. Maybe someone else can learn from this and not have to go through all the noise as I did.

Good find- I hate those noises like that- usually a fluke when you find out what finally causes them

It was a total fluke. I was trying to put another u-clamp on to change the weight to see if that would change the harmonics. Saw the washers on the hangers and thought, I wonder. Turned truck on, held washers, no noise, let go, vibrating noise, they came off right then. The I said, are you kidding me, it had been about two years, and it ended up being something so simple. Glad to find though. Made my day.

Ive had a vibration/rattle in my truck since i put my 4'' on, at least my wife told me i did im about 1/2 deaf so it doesnt bother me one bit, lol. It was warm out today so i got under there and regreased my drive shaft and i looked to see if i could find out what she was talking about. Come to find out i put an extra exhaust clamp on there and it was rattling around. I cant figure out why i put it there it wasnt doing anything but moving around its not even close to where a clamp should have been. Now i have to cut it off because its rusted and wont break free, laugh at my stupidity i sure did. i guess i was thinking about extra part and didnt have a plave to store them lol

Lol I agree......I dont and wont have the funds for a long time. I gotta find another job. Im still workin, just not makin enough to survive. So as much as it kills me, I gotta feed my tummy before I feed the truck. Not to mention I still need to fix my uppies. Im tired of drivin with my window crack to keep from carbon monoxide over dose.

I did a 5" exhaust over christmas weekend, since then i have experience a pronounce vibration at idle. Soon as go pedal is pressed it disappears. Sounds like same thing you had. But I am not getting a clear picture in my mind of where you say these washers are? Are they on every hanger? I only recall having a "rubber band" to place the hangers into. Dont recall anything with washers?
