I was on my way to work this morning and stopped at a red light. A truck pulls up along side and the person tells me that my tire on the drivers side rear looks like it is wobbling. I pulled over and checked the lug nuts and everything is tight. While I was driving home to get the wifes car, I set my mirror so I could watch the rear tire and I saw nothing. One thought I had was that tire has mud on it and since it was dark I'm wondering if the brown mud and the black tire made it look like it was wobbling from her vantage point.
When I get home I jacked the rear of the truck up and pulled on the wheels and there is some play in and out on both wheels. Maybe a quarter inch to half inch, roughly. Is this normal? If it isn't, what could be the problem?
if you are talking about while the wheel is on, and you are physically pulling on the wheel, outwards, then yes that is normal, and no reason to freak out. every truck, and i mean every truck i have ever worked on has this "play".
