Rislone & CD 2 analysis

Ever wonder what was in the bottle that you paid good money for? I found virgin analysis of both on another website and thought you might find them interesting. Only items with values are listed otherwise the values are zero.
Rislone:
Silicon 1
Zinc 380
Phosphorus 352
Calcium 768
VIS@ 100 c 9.2 =Heavy 20w
Seems to be a very weak detergent with low levels of zinc. There is really nothing here of value.

CD2
Magnesium 2
Zinc 1
Potassium 1
Phos 3
Calcium 1080
VIS@ 100C 5.7 =very light 20w
Nothing here but a light detergent. Even less value than the Rislone.
I guess if you have money to throw away and buying these additives gives you a warm fuzzy then they may be worth something. But they aren't going to do anything for your motor.

Rislone & CD 2 analysis

Thanks for sharing Flash. Just out of curiousity, did they happen to list the API gravity?

Rislone & CD 2 analysis

The analysis did not show the API gravity. This is the yellow bottle stuff they sell. From the Rislone website off of the MSDS it shows flashpoint of 300F, Specific gravity of 0.88, and 80-90% severely hydrotreated light or heavy napthenic distillates. Almost sounds like '60's technology.

There is a several CD2 products. Don't know which one you had analyzed, but right now Big Lots is selling CD2 Street Legal High Performance Oil Boost in 16 oz pink bottles for $1.99. I know the name sounds hokey, but it says 4 times the anti wear additives as SL motor oil. I inquired by email a couple months ago and they responded that it typically contains by weight the following percentages:

Calcium: 0.78 %
Phosphorus: 0.43
Zinc: 0.47
Moly: 0. 0"

That's roughly 4500 ppm of zddp. I has specifically asked about the parameters listed above, so there may be other components. Additionally they said it is 28 cSt at 100C, so it is not very thick to affect your oil's viscosity.

Gashog, the only lead subsititue that I have found that actually does something and in my 390s, you know when it gets to the carb is VPs C5. It also works as a decarbonizer. Here is the info:
http://www.vpracingfuels.com/C5.html...B7C8D38AEF830D

Hope this is the info you are looking for. Any old engine that relied on lead in the gas for valve lubrication can benefit from this fuel additive. I buy it by the case for my FEs.

TP, I'm sure the CD folks have new products coming out all of the time. This post originated in March 2003. This would be for the original formulation. As it all goes, this was a "required" additive when my dad changed his oil. Claimed it kept the engine cleaner. AHHHHHH, the old days.

My dad taught me to use Rislone. I used a quart of it every change for 25 years. Quit a couple years ago when I saw the contents.

Yes, CD2 has about half a dozen oil additives.

I remember using Rislone as a "de-carbonizer" by slowly pouring it down the carb of my '66 Dodge. I think it was really more of a mosquito repeller because of the smoke.
