I think the ecoboost will do better that 12-14 mpg for sure, but on the maneuvering in tight spaces, it's a toss up. I had a 2004 F150 Screw 4x4, and my current F250 and, granted, they were not the same cab style, but I have had really no difficulty with either. I don't try to shoehorn my vehicles into parking spaces, and would rather park further away than fight either vehicle into a tight spot. Towing, I have a very tight area to get my boat into and out of my yard. I had to adjust my corner angles, and fold in the towing mirrows to get through my fence gate, but it works, and causes no more grief than the F150 did. It is a little harder getting the boat back into it's spot, due to the F250 being longer. Turning radius is not a factor though. I give the nod to the F250 for that little of a price difference. It is ALOT more truck for the money. Besides, have you priced the normal wear parts for a 7-lug F150? especially the brakes, rotors.
i would rather have more truck with the F250 than take a change of overloading the F150. An the F250 cold handle heavier loads better an have better brakes an so on compared to the F150.
Now I have 3 years 3 months and 3 weeks to decide which truck is better suited to my needs, but I would love to hear your thoughts on what is the better deal.
Given that much lead time, I would sit back & wait for some real world feedback to trickle in on the F-150's EcoBoost motor.
Having owned both, here are some other things to consider:
Pros for F-250/350
Slightly larger & heavier platform = more stable towing platform
Bigger brakes
More interior room = more comfortable on long range drives
5th wheel prep option = that much easier to add 5th wheel adapter if you should decide to go that route later down the road
Bigger vehicle is is almost always the safer vehicle in the unfortunate event of an accident.
'09 and newer Super Duty trailer towing mirrors are just awesome. The newer F-150 trailer tow mirrors are nice, but the Super Duties mirrors are better.
Pros for F-150
Slightly smaller = a bit easier to maneuver & park in standard parking spots
Smaller front profile & weight = marginally better fuel economy (Just how much better is nigh impossible to determine though.)
Better ride quality - Let's face it, an F-150 is still a truck, but it (actually an '08 Lincoln Mark LT) had a slightly better ride quality than any of my Super Duties ('05, '06, and '09).
If comparing roughly equivalent trucks (F-150 vs. F-250/350 with similar trim level, options, etc.), the F-150 will generally be slightly cheaper for vehicle registration & insurance.
Not sure if it even factors in, but an F-150 can fit into some parking structures that will not accommodate a Super Duty.
Its a new day with this economy and the price of fuel.
I'd rather have fuel economy.
A guy can always pickup a car/utility trailer with electric brakes for a thousand bucks that you can throw 5-7000 pounds on if you need to haul heavy, and enjoy good fuel economy the rest of the time..
You can turn your F 150 into 16-18 foot deck truck that way
