Hey there ! Just bought my first Ford about a month ago. Its sure a nice truck but I am having a little problem with it, I was hoping you could help. The truck Is a 97 F-150 4x4 with a 4.6 v-8 it has 160k and runs out reall nice. The problem is in the mornings after sitting all night if it's fridged cold (below freezing) it will not idle. It Starts fine but if you take your foot off the gas it will die instantly ? If you keep your foot in it for a while it will eventually warm up enough and take off on its own. I sure hate reving it above idle before letting it warm up though ! Thanks and looking forward to hearing from you all.

My first thought would be a nasty IAC(Idle Air Control) valve.Once identified, you can clean it out.Havent heard of one being temperature sensitive, but anything is possible.
The IAC controls the amount of air required by the engine during operation. It basically is controlled by the computer, which is controlled by other sensors on the engine such as temperature etc.
I had to clean mine on the old 97 4.2.So far no issues with the 07(same powertrain).
Some decent carb cleaner should do the trick. These things get "gunky" and can cause erratic/or non-existant idle.
I would give the battery a test. A lot of the time the cold weather overnight will make it difficult for the battery to hold a charge. I would give it a load test or just test the terminals with a multi meter. You're probably below 11.5 volts even when your alternator is charging which makes it difficult for the trucks PCM to keep up with everything until you get over clear-flood mode.
