1980 E150 Carb Manifold Question

Hello Everyone,

I have a 1980 E 150 with a 300 straight 6 and I just am putting back on the intake and exhaust. (exhaust leak)

This is my question

I've bolted the intake and exhaust and looking at taking out the spacer between the stock carb and intake where it bolts to.

Can I take out the spacer and bolt the carb to the intake with a new gasket?

I'm asking because there is a 3 hole that the spacer was using. Can I just leave it alone or what do I need to do?

Thank you for the folks that answer. It's a great help to me.

Derek

If there is a phenolic (plastic) spacer, it's purpose is to prevent heat transfer from the engine to the carb....to prevent boil over or vapor lock in the carb. If your intake and exhaust are on the same side, there's even more heat from the exhaust manifold.

X2 My '81 E150 has the same 300 six motor and it's better to keep any stock gear you can retain on these early electronically controlled motors.
