I know this has probably been asked and answered quite a few times, but I can't find it in the older threads. I am looking for a kit to change the drum brakes on my 1967 f100 camper special to disc brakes. I just don't feel comfortable with drums on some of the steep mountain roads in Utah, especially the road to Powder Mountain. If anybody knows where I can get a kit, please let me know. Thanks ahead of time, you guys haven't let me down yet.
if you change to disc brakes you have to have a brake booster. a lot of people don't know that.like my truck,, no brake booster, 4 wheel drum.a little work & stops pretty good. if you are pretty good a drum brakes. you can make them drum brakes as reliable as disc.but i have never changed to disc. if u change to disc brakes, i hope it turns out very well. lmk. i mite change mine over.
This is a very simple conversion that has been done many times. Just find a mid to late '70s F100/150 in the boneyard that has a disc front setup, pull the entire I Beam assemblys and bolt them in your truck.
You can also pull the power booster and prop valve. If you want power steering get that too. Front drums, even when 100% just don't measure up to the discs.
Due to a bad knee joint, I just switched over to power brakes on my 71 f250 4x4 just replaced front drums rebuilt wheel cyl. Added a new master with larger cup 1.1/8".Got a p/booster unit from picknpull as a core $21 buck with my 10% VA discount. Had the power/booster rebuilt loco re builder. My 5,850 Lbs truck stops 100% easier now. Glad, I didn't go through all the troubles and expense changing to disc brakes on mind. Last summer just rebuilt my whole front end a dana 44 all new bearing inner seals new drums, G2 axles on in my closed knuckles. And surly didn't want to have rebuild another one. Also you must clean out the distribution block, these be all clogged up with crap
My x father in law truck, Ive driven it's a 70 c/s f-250 with P/D-brakes & P/S. It's steering is just way to squirrely and the brake were very touchy. Which I didn't like this is what kept me back from chancing over yrs ago. But some guys like the one finger wheel turning.. not 4 me..

Any 73-79 F100/150 2 wheel drive will work as a donor. Take everything including the prop valve, lines, and even the brackets on the frame which hold the lines. Make sure you use a disc/drum master cylinder. Pick-n-pulls on the west coast are full of these trucks. It is a very easy swap as you just take the whole front suspension, I-beams and all, just make sure the king pins don't have any play in the donor and you won't have to mess with those.
