So I finally get around to taking my truck in for the recall on the cruise control. suppose to only take about 30 minutes takes these guys all day. When I go to pick it up they tell memy CAC Boots are leaking, not bad but they are. So I ask what is that? The only reply I got was " Oh its something on your turbo and when truck get some age on them the all begin to leak alittle." Is this something to really be concerned about? What is a CAC Boot?
CAC stands for charge air cooler. It's another way to say intercoooler boots. They all leak some. Quite normal. Pretty easy to clean yourself if you want to. However there is no harm in leaving them as is either....your choice.
they are those rubber hose looking pieces down on each side of the radiator that the pipes coming out of the turbo connect into right?
yes! you can get them from a couple different places. i got mine from dieselsite.com and love them. my father in law got the set from riffraff diesel and they seem to be of a nice quality as well. wither way you cant go wrong with new boots. once you get them you will see how cheap and crappy the stock ones really are.....

Correct. There are 6 total. The two that you mentioned coming from each side of the radiator area. The two at the top of the manifold (spider) and two at the bottom of the spider that connects to the left and right bank plenums. It's pretty easy to remove 4 of them, clean and reinstall without too much trouble. If you decide to mess with the bottom two (under the spider) then you are risking damaging the plenums because they are easily crushed. I only mess with the 4 easy ones whenever I work on my truck. They are not bi-directional...meaning one end is for the IC tube and the other for the cast aluminum housing. The IC tube end has an internal rib/ring that fits in the groove on the IC tube. The other end of the rubber coupling hose doesn't have that ring. Or perhaps it had it at first and then got flattened out over time. Either way, make note of how they come off so you can get them back on correctly.
ill do it for half that and get you the new boots myself and still walk away with a handful of cash! holy crap they tried to rape you! all it takes is a deep 7/16" socket to take off the band clamps and get the intercooler pipes out. once out just wipe them down on the inside and get all the oil out and then re-install with the new boots. so simple a caveman could do it.........
