I have as mentioned at another time on here replaced the plugs, wires, map,ox sensor, coil, control module, as they all tested bad or weak. Allso put a block plate behind the egr.All this helped all a lot on my 92 f150 4.9. And any time I open my Haynes manual it reminds us , do not forget the simple things, such as the thermostat. It never dawned on me that was bad. My heater was never real hot but warm enough. The temp gauge never got above cold mark, I figured the gauge was not very accurate. But I never over heated so I never thought about it.
I pulled the thermostat out out heated it in a pan of water and it opened just like it should,,,But never closed all the way. So I decided what the hay, not costing much I bought one, checked it and it opens and closes fine. My temp gauge is where it should be now and the heater is hot now. This tells me that my engine has never been operating at the proper temp and Thats part of the reason for poor mpg. Dont forget the simple things.
