I locked my hubs today (non-ESOF) and I'm getting a squealing at speeds of under 5 mph. It's VERY loud and very high pitched. If I unlock them, the squealing stops. I do use my 4wd system regularly and lock my hubs even when in 2wd to keep things lubed up. I've never done any deep water crossings, just light mud and lotsa beach driving. Also the hub that I first lock or unlock is extremely hard to turn, the second one is like butter. I have had some other hub weirdness (ticking noise that increases and decreases with speed, light squealing at all speeds), but they've always gone away if I unlocked and locked my hubs again. Any clues on why or what the heck is making them squeal??
They need cleaned!
This is an 02 ,still under warranty ?
have the dealer do it or take it apart an do it.
After riding in the sand ,do you wash with the hub area extremely well .Up here in the northeast with all the road salt ,i wash them good the stuff that comes out of the hub area is pretty bad .
I plan on cleaning them and regreasing in the spring.
I had a whistle-like squeak from my front hubs. The dealer replaced the front axle seals under warranty and the problem was gone. I did not drive in any deep water, mud, sand either.

Mine did that yesterday, but for a different reason. I accidentally left one side locked and the other side open for about 5 or 6 miles on Sunday. When it started making that noise I unlocked the one locked. The noise had stopped but when I locked em yesterday at lunch the noise returned. Opened em and the noise stopped again. The squealing is like a muffled car horn. Thanks for any help!
