Ping?

I got a few problems with my 89 2.3L 5speed Ranger, I love this truck and want to keep it alive and running.

When i first bought the truck about 6 months ago, all i took was a flick of the wrist to start it, now it takes a few tries.

So i changed the spark plugs from Auto Light 764(Copper) to Auto Light APP104(DLB PLTNM)

after the change i noticed a weird humming sound when i'm aggressively acceleration i'm guessing this is a "Ping" I'm not really sure. It doesn't do it at idle speed even if i rev up the engine.

Does any one have any ideas, i checked the gapping on the new plugs they where .045 the old ones where about .042

The specifications call for o.o44 plug gap, so you're OK in that regard.

How were the spark plug wires when you change the plugs? How many miles are on the truck? Did you reset the ECM (computer) when you changed plugs? The computer could have adjusted the timing to run properly with the old plugs. If that is the case, reseting the computer will let it relearn the proper setting for optimum engine operation.

Just a thought.
