Cleaning Catalytic Converter?

Ok so I got a Ford f250 79 with a 400 6.6L engine in it. It has about 60k miles on it. I was wondering if I should get a new tall pipe for it because it might be choking my engine some what. If it is how much HP could it be hold up? Also I would like to some how clean my catalytic converter or even just take it off if that's not a crime. Also how much HP could the cat be holding?

Correct me if I'm wrong but I dont think a 79 F250 ever even had a cat..........unless maybe it was originally a California truck????????????

iirc the easiest way to tell if you need cats is , if the fuel gauge says "fuel " its not catalyst and if it says unleaded gasoline only its catalyst.
also , if you need to replace them, autozone sells universal cats for around $60

If the engine is stock I don't think new exhaust is gonna gain you much, if anything.

its more than the exhaust choking that engine. if you want to replace the cat, do that, but i know of no way to clean a cat out. call your local inspection station and what they do as far as emissions on your vehicle. call a few for that matter and find out if they say anything about cats.

Pull the exauhst off ur truck, take a screwdriver and knock out the insides of your cat. Put it back on and it will look like you have a cat but it won't be hindering your exhaust.
