my 84 f150 4+4
has 300il 6 i have a 351 engine i would like to put in it
it has a 4 speed tranny my question is will the v8 fit
the 4 speed and will i have to get another flywheel or can i use the one off the 6 cylinder
You can swap in the 351, but you'll have to swap motor mounts, and use a flywheel for the 351. The 4 speed will bolt to the 351.
Why are you getting rid of the six? Not enough power?
If thats the case, and you have a high gear ratio (say 3.00's or 2 somethings.) that 351 is going to be even more of a pig.
But if you have to have the 351, its a direct swap in, so long as its a 351W, the 351M uses a different transmission bolt pattern...i think it uses one for the big blocks 429/460.
thanks for help kinda like the 6 but was wanting little more power had motor sitting around was wondering if it was worth doind oviosly not worth the trouble getting good miledge with the 6 so think i will forget the extre power and stay with orginal motor again thanks for the help
The 300 is a long lasting engine, it will outlast most any other engine, some go on into the 300k range, without a rebuild.
If you want to get some more power out of your truck, port the head, change the intake, add a 2bbl carb, a little cam and a free flowing exhaust will help a lot.
Changing the rear gears out might help too...depending on what you have.
Take a look at the axle ratio sticker on the door, and post what you have for the axle code, and i'll try to look it up for you.
