Should I be scared

I am 50 years old had lots of Ford trucks 9 gas, a 6.9 diesel and two PSD's all been darn good to me , its time to replace my 95 PSD mason dump it has had only one big problem (the DMF) I need the same truck just newer as in diesel, dump body 4X4 only difference I want an auto trans,,,,,,,,,, so I've been looking and these new Fords look mega complicated also the stories I hear are pretty bad , the engines do not look user friendly , Ive done all of my truck maintenance and repairs over the years , so tell are you having good luck with your truck and are you doing all the PM work such as oil and filters, what issues have you had to deal with?

Trying to decide should i get a Ford or is it time to explore the options as in Dodge or GMC Chevy?

08 f350 4x4 srw a/t and all the other stuff, Job 1

As for basic maintance I do my own, oil change air filter no problem, fuel filters are o.k they make you work for the change (keeping the area clean before, during the filter change), tranasfer case easy to service had no problems with that. front and rear diffs also easy to srevice had no problems, Auto trans easy to service and had no problems.
In the 55k I have had my truck I have a few problems and all were covered by warranty and some items were changed on the newer trucks.
All that is listed was coverd by warranty at my dealer. Replaced two radiators, repaired oil leaks on engine front area, lower and upper oil pan leaks, trans pan gakset oil leak, rear main engine seal oil leak (early production), repaired dual automatic a/c heater blend door for rh side replace motor, and then later lh side motor and then rh motor side again, then replaced the the defrost, vent floor control motor. The rh motor was replace at about six months and was the old style, all the listed above after that are the new style. They replaced the EGR valve and housing, so far their have been no problems with the above listed stuff. After all that crap I was ready to get rid of my ford. But after some thought, and time I have kept it. I have not had any more problems with it. I will not buy a job1 because it is a first production. I will always buy the next production run. I have a friend who has purchased a new 2011 f350 srw 4x4 loaded with all the goodies, with the new 6.7 psd, he has 15k on it,no prblems so far, and it is going strong when towing his 15k trailer. Ford fixed the problems that I had on the newer trucks, I like the ford for the ride and hauling capacity. Good luck!
P.S chevy/gmc? I do not think so!

I think you will be fine as long as you work the motor. With the emissions stuff it does take some getting used to but once you have the hang of it you would be fine. I have had no problems out of my motor. I have 47K on mine.

Big thing is maintance, checking fluids all the time and no idling.

shobbs64 , thats a scary story , seems like you went through a bit of grief even if covered by warrentee....

senix, why no idle time ? my trucks do snow plowing and there is plenty of idle time while doing walks and stairs....

Someone clue me in on a separate oil additive tank for the diesel fuel, I heard about that from a tech that was doing an turbo r and r on an 07, I am not sure if he was talking about an 07 or a newer Ford.

newer emissions will not work well with idle time. Shut the truck off. During idle you are building more soot that will clog the DPF. Idle also tends to wash the cylinders causing wet stacking.

No oil additive in your fuel. You can use a fuel conditioner as long as it it compatable with ULSD fuel and for newer diesels.

Think maybe what the tech was talking about was the DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) tank on the 6.7 in the '11s. It's not an oil but rather a urea mixture.

I like my '08 job 1. It's had a few minor problems, but little that wasn't taken care of expediently under warranty.

You will have some growing pains in any of the tier IV engines no matter whose emblem is on the grill.
