I can`t seem to get any gears in my C6 the only thing that I might have done wrong was to replace the flywheel from the motor I rebuilt which was an FMX,the other flywheel was destroyed they both looked pretty similar, will that make a difference I have an 1981 Bronco 351 C
In common usage, a "flywheel" is only used in front of manual transmissions, and the clutch is pressed between it and the pressure plate by the diaphragm in the clutch cover. On automatics, the part that connects the torque converter to the crankshaft is usually called the "flexplate".
If the flexplate fits the crank and the torque converter AND it holds the TC the correct distance inside the transmission, it's the correct part. But it sounds like yours is holding the TC too far forward, and not allowing all the splines to mate up and drive.
