I jumped into ole Blue (93 F-150) yesterday morning and what should be the first thing that catches my eye...the windshield has a crack from the very top till about 4 inches from the bottom, about 6-8 inches to the right of the rear view mirror. It starts under the chrome at the top of the WS...absolutely no, zero, nada, sign of a rock chip or any kind of physical damage...just a pure and simple crack. I drove it the night before and it was okay, and actually parked it under the carport for change. Since it was under the carport the likelyhood of being hit by something blunt goes way down. I havn't been off-roading in a while so I haven't experienced any unusual flexing of any sort. What could cause it to crack? Some kind of stress? It's the original windshield. I'm just really curious.

you might have had a weak spot somewhere in the windshield where a rock hit it. It may have been there for years. Just like dashes, they have been known to crack under quick temp changes.
I wouldn't put a lot of thought into it. I'd rather crack the windshield than the dash.
I have a bad windshield also. So is it a do it yourself project or is this a take it to a shop thing? If it's a diy where should I get my windshield? bjr23
I live in Hawaii (Oahu) so the temperatures don't vary that much. And it got so big all of a sudden..from no crack at all to almost completely from top to bottom. I've had little cracks spread over time with heat changes but this beats all.
And to bjr23, I don't know what the other folks will say about a windshield being a diy job...I tried it once and it leaked like a screen door. I'll pay somebody that knows what they're doing. I think labor is the cheap part of that job anyway.
