I have an 05 f250 that is driving me nuts with the "death wobble" so i was thinking about converting the front spring setup from coil to the older leaf style. has anyone done this yet or know if it can be done? any help would be great thanks.
as it is always said "with enough time and money anything is possible." It will be a lot of cash to do the swap. The axles are different so you will need a new axle and if you have 4x4 you will have to find matching gears. Also you will need new rims to go along with the swap because the backspacing is different. I really think you'd be better off trying to fix your death wobble than switching suspensions.
I am interested in going the other way, I hate my leafs, they are way to harsh, and I even have Deavers! Does anyone know if the frame brackets for the coil spring trucks will bolt to the leaf spring trucks? I would be interested in getting the drop brackets, then build my own radious arms and add a coilover or an air bag.
If you bought the truck lifted, first check to make sure the shocks and springs are tight. I had a bad death wooble on my 85, and I had loose shocks, made them tight and it fixed it. Later I added dual steering stabilizers and made it ride smooth like it was a new truck.
so far i have put a duel steering stabilezer on,had the alignment done and had them set the camber to the negative side of the specs, changed tires to a differant style and brand, removed my 8 inch lift and went back to a 2.5 inch leveling kit, checked the track bar shocks and ball joints, and pitman arm for play, the wobble is not as bad but still bad enough that i am afraid to drive it with my family in it so is there any other so called fixes for the death wobble that anyone knows of?
do you have a adjustable track bar on it and a drop down bracket? is the pitman are a stock one or a longer one? i have seen the death wobble caused from those areas befor
Modern truck frames are the shape and material they are so you have "beam resistance", that's how they have an amazing amount of strength with not a whole lot of material. Try and weld something onto the frame and you will have stress fractures that spiderweb from the area that was heated.
It would take a highly skilled welder that made no errors to be able to weld all the spring hangers and shock mounts without damaging the integrity of the frame. A weakened frame supporting the heavy front end of your truck would be a disaster. Better leave your suspension and find out what's causing your death wobble.....
