Officially resurrecting this thread...
I pulled the valve covers off this afternoon and found the uvch burnt up, which is what I expected but two of the weather pak plugs on the truck are burnt up as well. Can these connectors be bought and crimped on? do I need to change the engine harness?
Also can I buy the harnesses for the injectors and glow plugs at an auto parts store?
You can buy the connectors for the outside of the cover. No need to buy the engine harness. If both inside and outside are burnt, don't forget to check the pass thru pins on the valve cover gasket closely. You may need to replace that too.
Bummer! The harness to replace is the inside/injector harness. You should be able to get them at a good parts store and the gasket too. I really think you should do the o-rings to while you are there (for your own peace of mind). I am not sure about the outside plug...I did not have to cross that bridge. I am sure they sell some replacement or fix for it. I am sure some one will show the way.
Yea the pins are wasted in the gasket for sure... absolutely changing them.
I agree copedawg I am planing on doing O rings, GP's and the harnesses.
The engine is really clean inside makes me happy to see that. no sludge at all bolts and iron are still the natural color..
I see doorman offers a kit with the pig tails, gasket, and the under harness. Is this a good kit? anybody use it?
Just got back from parts running, ordered 2 doorman kits. They'll be in tomorrow. Which glow plugs do i want? I hear bad things about the Autolites?? Motorcraft?? Bosch??
Ok... I ordered the 8 Motorcraft ZD-11 glow plugs, 4 Dorman 904-206 O ring kits (they do 2 injectors EA.), and 2 Dorman 615-206 UVCH Kits. Anything else I need while im at it? will the injectors just pull out after removing the retainer?
I know I may sound like broken ike a broken ike a broken ike BZZZZT broken record but look at this thread before you do the O-rings https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...placement.html There is a ton of info on there...at least look at the 2 short videos up front. You are going to feel a lot better.
Good luck with it and keep us posted when you do it.
Ok just an update,
I pulled the injectors out last night and cleaned them up. The O rings that were on them were wasted... the ones to keep the oil out of the fuel had big craters missing out of them. Glad I decided to do the O rings while it was apart. cant wait to drive it when its back together... 2 of the glow plugs were not even plugged in and two of the uvch plugs were melted. I think we have found the lazy cylinder that I thought I could feel since I bought it.
I could'nt get the 1/8 plugs out of the head and I backed off before I stripped them. so all the stuff ran into the cylinders most of it in the rear ones. I will turn it by hand a few times and then crank it for a while before i put the glow plugs back in.
I'm hoping to have it done tonight after work... wish me luck this is uncharted diesel territory for me lol
