1990 E-350 Conversion Van: Secondary Heating System?
Hey guys,
I did some research on all the lenses and found all the part numbers we'll need, but now I'm on the next quest: heat.
The fan itself blows like a hurricane, but I'm not getting any heat out of it, no matter how long the vehicle runs/drives. The radiator reservoir was about a gallon low, and I thought that was the issue, only to find out I was mistaken. I'm in the process of trying to take the dog house off to find out where the lines are routed to, but one of the bolts is being a .
If any of you could give me a better understanding as to how this secondary heating system works, it would be GREATLY appreciated. Links, experience, theories, guesses, any knowledge at all would be helpful.
Here's a guess... Secondary means heat to the back someplace right? There should be a second heater core back there with a set of lines coming from the front. The lines are likely metal down the length of the van, as rubber wouldn't last well in that application. Look underneath for a matched set of metal tubes probably about the size of your thumb. They could have rusted out at some point and instead of fixing, been bypassed. (don't know how long its not been an ambulance..)
Once you find the lines, check to see if they are warm. The heater core could be plugged up blocking the flow. Also could be a shut off along the line someplace that isn't working right.
They're just typical radiator hoses, probably 1" ID. I was able to get the doghouse off and they lead to the front of the engine where they met a valve. My theory is that the valve was just shut so that there was no heat traveling through the system in the summer time. I've never heard of heating hoses being metal though...
