I just got a new F550. It just came back from having a tank swapped over from the 2007 F550 that I am replacing. The truck now has the engine light on. I cannot find anything obvious that would make it come on other than the tail lights are not hooked up yet. Will no tail lights cause a CEL? I notice that the blinkers do not flash fast like they should when there is a blown tail light, they flash normal speed. Any ideas before I bring it back to the dealer?
I would think you would get the wrench light with the taillights unhooked. The computer monitors the taillights and changes the flash rate if a bulb is out. Logically, a warning could appear. RDenis will be here shortly to give us the correct answer...
Well, I found the rear most wiring harness ground was not connected to the frame. Have an appointment with the dealer tomorrow morning to have it looked at. No other lights. In engineering mode it shows no DTC's.

When you said "tank swapped", you are talking about the fuel tank, correct? I know there is a fuel cap off alert that comes on with the 2011. There must be a sensor for this. If there is no sensor on the 2007 tank, would you get a fuel cap off message or the engine light?
Friday we were iced in so just got the truck to the dealer this morning. In order to mount the tank and the bed on the truck, the fab shop had to drop the fuel tank and the DEF tank. while things were unplugged at the tanks, the ingnition switch was turned on. This set a Check Engine light. All codes were reset and everything checked out fine at the dealer so no more CEL.
