Question Ranger brake cable adjust?

:::: I've got a 93 4WD STX with a couple of brake type problems.
First off...I pulled the rear drums and the shoes appear fine, no leaks, doesn't appear frozen, adjustment good.

The emergency foot operated brake goes all the way to the floor, but holds the truck a little bit.

The instrument panel "brake" light never goes completely off when disengaged.

The ABS light is also on.....I don't care too much about that one.

Can I adjust this easily? Should I?

Ranger brake cable adjust?

Yes the e-brake cable is adjustable from under the truck on the driver's side. It require's a very small wrench or plier's and a lot of patience. You might want to soak the adjuster with penatrating oil prior to adjusting.

Ranger brake cable adjust?

There was a TSB or recall, can't remember, on my 94 (may apply to the 93). The ratchet mechanism was prone to slipping and not engaging early on when you depressed the pedal, resulting in, at times, the e-brake pedal going WAY down before engaging. My dealer replaced the entire pedal assembly, but I read the TSB and it involves installing a little plastic wedge into the assembly to (hopefully) fix this. It looks very easy to install.

Funny thing, it is still prone to doing this; I've just learned to live with it. If anyone can add to this, please do; it get's old

Check the fluid level and the sensor for the brake light, if all is ok then you will need to run the RABS pinpoint tests to determine the cause of it and the RABS light. Easty to do.
