new IFS Help

I just bought a ford pinto station wagon IFS for my 53 f-100 and was hoping to get some help on the installation.Do I need to tear it down and buy a new cross member or can I just graft this into my frame.I was hoping this would just graft in.As I look at this clip it is notable smaller than original but the articles I read say this will work on my 53.It came with all the different springs(8 or 6 cylinder) and strut rods to mount to the frame. If someone has the procedure and correct measurements I could sure use it.Thanks DJ

74-80 Pintos are the same suspension as the 74-78 Mustang II. Buy a aftermarket crossmember from Jim Weimer's Rod Garage for about $350. Buy the new 5-lug brake rotors with the same bolt pattern as the reaend you will use for about $85/pair. Then use the spindles, upper and lower a-frames, rack and pinion from the Pinto. Lots cheaper than the $1500 most places want for a hub to hub kit.

Check it out REAL careful. The OEM type is stamped sheetmetal and have a tendency to rot out in places.
It is also a bit on the light side for a truck but Im not going to harp on that again.
Good luck.

I believe that the MII suspension has to be widened approx 4" for a F100. Therefore you will probably need a new crossmember and rack extensions. Many people also reccomend using the later Mustang rack, allthough this is not absolutely neccessary.

TruckFarmer mentioned mentioned getting new rotors (and calipers) to get the 5 on 4 & 1/2 bolt pattern. It also gets you bigger brakes. The stock Pinto 9" brakes aren't sufficient for an F100. Not if you're gonna be putting your right down to any extent.

There are several articles to be found on the web that walk you through swapping bigger brakes from other Fords onto this front end as well.
