I am wanting to paint one of my trucks by my self, and am about to by materials.
1. my compressor is a 27 gallon and 150 psi, it says 6.5 at 40psi cfm if i am looking at the right thing.
2. is there any guns that will be a good choice for this compressor and would you point me in there direction.
They look really good but my compressor only pushs 6 cfm, so what does that mean? I will have to just paint small porsions at a time?
O ya and the guy at the local paint shop tried to sell me a "Vaper" set for 160. It had two guns. If that is in the usable cfm range would it be a good set to start with?
If i can used the 100 dollar set mentioned above i would rather get that, but i need some clarification on the whole cfm deal.
Keeping it simple. All air tools have a cfm rating requirement to work properly. Compressor needs to deliver that volume of air at that specific air pressure. Anything else is a crap shoot. There are guns that work on 4cfm. Eastwoods Concours for one, but I haven't checked price and I'm sure there are others.
Most of those generic guns (Vaper, ATD) are based on an old Sata model called an NR95. They are all going to use more than 6 cfm. I would venture to say even the little detail gun would be right near that. I would try to supplement your air somehow. Maybe borrow another compressor or something. You'll get a better finish if the compressor can keep up.
I would either get a bigger compressor, or another one similar in size and connect them to each other.
As for paint guns, on thing to consider is comfort. Most guns out there will all do pretty much the same thing, it just depends on what size opening you are using. And that will depend on what type of paint you are using as well. HF sells some decent guns, as does tractor supply, Eastwood, lowes and home depot. It just depends on the application, use and the amount of money you are willing to spend. You could also try looking on Craigslist as well.
