94 Ranger Starting Problems
I started having some issues with the truck starting a few weeks ago. I replaced the starter relay, and that seemed to work. Then a couple of weeks later, it happened again. I replaced the entire starter, and that worked for a couple of weeks as well. Now the truck won't start again. I had the battery checked, and it was good. When i try to start the truck, I get a click (what I assume is either from the relay or starter solenoid) but the starter motor will not turn over at all.
Could this be that i purchased a bad starter motor, or possibly something to do with the ignition switch or system?
Any help would be greatly apreciated, or thoughts from anyone who has ran into this problem as well.
Thank you for your help
It sounds as though current is not getting to the starter.
A test light or voltmeter at the terminal on the starter will tell you if power is reaching the starter. If there is current to the starter, you may have a defective starter. If there isn't power to the starter, work your way back to the battery, testing at each terminal. When you find power, the next thing in line is defective.
