I changed out all the major components of the electrical system and the spark plugs had oil deposits on the plugs. Its a 79 460 and had sat for 5 years. It ran before I changed everything. It runs good now other than needing carb rebuild and great oil pressure. Could the oil deposits be from poor electric system needing replaced and didnt have good spark or from sitting and the valves had leaked from sitting? Anything I can add to clean the top end?
Oil on the plugs typically indicates poor piston ring seal. That would be very common after sitting for so long. If possible, get out on a frontage road or a long stretch and give it a chance to breathe and stretch its legs. Let it get warm and see how they look after that. Make sure to watch your oil level if it smokes a lot.
Also, you can have bad valve stem seals, also common after sitting for so long. This is a little more in depth repair that requires disassembly of the valve train.
Thanks for the info. One thing the truck never smoked after all this time sitting and good oil pressure but still It probably just needs to be opened up to clear everything out. Thanks again!
