Stuck key in...

Stuck key in...
... turned key... nothing. All lights work. All electrical is great.
I have noticed that here lately (last 4-5 months) warm or cold i could stick the key in and turn it and the truck is like "mmmmaaayyybbbeeeee I'll start............ok now I'll start." It could be a half a sec. to a good 4-6 sec. later and then it starts. Tonight it would not start at all. Popped the hood messed with the wires on the Alt and batteries (brand new Blue Tops) and it stutered and started.
Any ideas?
Truck is 2002 PSD.

Thats a great idea. Does your gear selector get real sloppy over time? I tightened mine up about a year ago and now it moves a little in each selection. That shouldn't happen. Anyway I'll give the shakey shakey tomorrow morn and see if that works.
