Does it matter where I get GT40 heads from?

I have a 1987 F150 4x4 with a 351W HO in it and I want to put on a set of GT40 heads. I called a couple of yards and they don't have the F3ZE-AA ones from a mustang but do have some from an explorer (E9TE6049AA) are these the same?

96-97 explorer/mountaineer were the true gt40, 97.5+ are the gt40p head

OK great, Thanks. Do you know if the head bolt holes will still have to be drilled larger?

If they come off a 302 they will need to be drilled for the bigger head bolts , buts thats so easy a caveman could do it ....Lew

All in good fun, had the nickname since highschool. Thanks for the help. I want to put a set of these heads on my 351 W HO to help with air flow. When I do and order headers do I order them for the explorer or still with the F150 info?

Order heades for your truck not the Explorer, and adding 1.7 rockers would also help improve airflow a bit.

Will do, thanks.

I want to remove all smog/a.i.r. additions also, anything to watch out for concerning these? I saw on site that someone used 5/8th inch bolts to plug the holes at the rear of the heads (I didn't know they were tapped) and hopefully I can get a set of shorty headers without all the extra smog holes. I will order an edelbrock intake without the egr hookups (if I can) switch the heads (port & Polish ???), change the rockers like you suggested, add the headers and a new edelbrock performer 4 barrel carb. Anything else anyone can think of thats pretty much a bolt on application?

When you pull the smog stuff, just cut the air cross over tube and weld it shut on both sides and you have the heads plugged.

I'll be replacing the heads with the GT40's. Are those holes still in that style head and are they tapped with anytype of threads?
