ehh, been couped up in the house all weekend sicker than a snake.. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel just in time for monday morning..oh joy
Wireless ISP's can be very reliable if they do it right..
They actually use the same 802.11G/N that your laptop uses for wifi, just channeled over long distances with big antennas. Believe it or not, even low power wifi can hit distances of 20miles with a clear signal and good antennas..
and yes it is line of sight, so any leaves that grow back will affect the signal.
Find out if the wireless ISP has a cap on your bandwidth..10gigs ect, it wouldnt be hard to hit it if you watch netflix or hulu.
You might consider adding tethering to one of your iphones.. i think they charge $20 a month, but you are limited to that AT&T 2Gb package, which is really not enough imho. Plus, unless there is 3g in your area it is going to be painfully slow and even if it is your mileage may vary
Well, last night after the game I went to bed and most of the snow was gone. Got up this morning and it's back. Oh, Joy!
Glad I bought new tires for the Jeep a couple weeks ago.
I'm trying to determine if someone has transplanted me much farther north that I'm supposed to be. We have had 2 snowfalls that had accumulation and the forecast for Wed is 4-6'' of this strange white stuff again... Brrrr. Fellows, I'm about ready to pack up and head south, far south. Checked out the weather in La Paz Baja yesterday and it was only 41* there....Uhhh... I didn't think it ever got cold that far south. Wonder if Al Gore's phone has been ringing.... I know his ears should be burning Global warming my A**
I'm not sure. 8 couples off a Harley group I post on are currently riding the length of Baja. In the pics they've posted I've seen riding jackets but not really anyone bundled up. Even folks in tee shirts during overnight and meal stops.
Definitly a lot warmer than here, although to all appearances the beer's still cold.
Brr! The truck says 16F...my body say 6F. That north wind is cutting through ya' if your outside. Looks like once we get through the next 36 hours things will start to improve...or at least according the to the weather guessers. Supposed to have 3 or 4 days next week above 40F. Maybe we can melt this white stuff off. Had to put my 5th wheel hitch back in the bed just so I can get around Carnage.

When I talked to their office yesterday, the guy told me they send a "survey team" to make sure the signal is there. According to his computer it would be...but we'll see after they do their survey. I know I'm within 2-3 miles of the antenna (water tower)...but there's several trees between point A& point B.

I don't do the Hulu/Netflix thing. What movies I do watch are DVD. The customer no-service guy didn't mention a cap on bandwidth. I haven't put any $$$ down, so I'll ask when it comes time to make the commitment if/when we get that far in this endeavor. I guess if I have to, and I can write this off on my taxes...I could go with a cable modem. Just need to come up with another modem; think I know where a "homeless one" is sitting. The cable modem would be the same monthly as an air card with no bandwidth cap.

Since both of our iPhones were grandfathered in on an old plan, we have unlimited. Apparently some bean counter realized that you can run a whale of bandwidth up with a "smart phone" after they started offering it to folks. Even the customer service guy I talked to 3-4 weeks ago pointed out our plan isn't offered current. He went as far to point out how much each one of the iPhones was using in bandwidth...thank goodness we don't have a cap. I think he said the current cap is 5Gb. He claimed that I couldn't tether through the iPhone...I'd have to get an air card. I know I'm sitting 100-125 yards from a tower that's 3G. I just can't stomach the monthly fee ($60) to use the air card and I'd be limited to 5Gb with the air card. I tried to corner the guy on that...but he was quick to pull out some crap about I'd have to get a new number just for the air card and it wouldn't be eligible to the "unlimited bandwidth" the two phones have. I tried to see if our 13 years with SW Bell Wireless/Cingular/AT&T meant anything. All I got was..."thank you for being a loyal customer for all these years".Not exactly what I was fishing for...maybe need to change lures.

I don't know...but I know the Canadian & snow geese have been flying south in large squadrons/formations over the last couple of days. They maybe thinking the same thing.

I sure hope so, I'm sure his email account has exploded by now. I'm just thankful he invented the internet before he left office.
More snow this coming week in the forecast for NWA/SWMO...oh joySound like WPA projects. I've said it before...the generation that was the backbone of the WPA and fought WW2 were REAL MEN (and Women). The rest of us are just a bunch of wimps. I think it was Brokaw that coined the term "The most incredible generation"...and I agree.
Actually they are the first two dams built by the founder of AP&L.
I am so sick & tired of snow and especially the phrase "snow-mageddon". You think the posties are a little unstable? There are a couple of us up here today that can put them to shame because some pencil pushing pin-head in KC looking at a computer decided all the crew vans between Carthage & Cotter do not need to leave their home terminals...and all crews en-route need to be returned to their home terminals. Basically $#%^& with running a railroad because a contractor decided they don't want to provide the service for what they bid the contract. It's one thing to get up at 0200-0300, get all "dressed up" for the day, clean all the #$%* snow off the truck and drive to the depot. Only to pile into the crew hauler and ride just past half way (2 hrs into a 3 hour trip)...then turn around & come back. Yeah, I'm in a real crappy mood right now.

Do you know if their's any WPA or CCC plaques on either one of them? That would have been a prime time & type of project for either one of those depression era agencies. The B-o-L may say Entergy; the cars maybe leased to them & carry their reporting marks....but it's still AP&L to us on the trains.
Next time I'm down there I'll look at the plaque again. I don't remember any of the WPA or CCC on it. I know there are plaques that list an engineering firm out of NY as the builder. There are a lot of old photos in there that show the construction. Really neat stuff!
Hey Zack, you folks alright up there? Just heard on the radio that ya'll got around 2' of snow out of that last blizzard. Wow, 2' of snow in AR, I think somebody needs to bombard Al Gore with a huge snowball. Global warming my A**
I just love my employer, some days I'd love to slap the snot out of a manager or two. But if I say anymore I may end up in an investigation.

Yeah, I enjoy seeing stuff like that. There are some neat photos of Ft. Smith in a musuem downtown, I've spent an entire Saturday looking at some WW2 era photos. Neat stuff, and from what I saw around Jones Mill while I was down there...I'm beating the history would just as interesting.

We're doing pretty well. Fort's Myth only got a couple of inches; the same with Carthage (2-3 at both). It was Fayetteville/Siloam Springs that got hammered with the snow fall measured in feet. The interstate was dicey in a couple of places in the Fayetteville/Springdale area when I drove through there this morning. But it wasn't too bad. I'm sure it will be exciting tonight when all that melted snow re-freezes.

I agree, but I think you'll have to go through the Secret Service to get that clown.
I'm not exactly sure how much we got, but it was at least 6+ inches.
Makes tasty ice cream, but nasty to drive in..
This morning 67/167 was pretty much a solid compacted sheet of ice between McRae and Searcy. I was happy to see that most of that melted off today, but there's still iffy spots.
Getting out of the yard.. well lets just say I didn't even try it in the car.
I measured 14" at our place. Still had some on the ground from last week.
Transfer case on the Jeep gave out just as I got home yesterday afternoon. Had just enough left to get the thing up into the shop and no more.
Not really complaining, the Jeeps got 300k miles on it. I recently bought everything I need to overhaul the trans, just hadn't gotten around to it. Lucky me, now I can do both boxes in one shot and not have to pull the t/case a second time.
Maybe by Sunday I'll be able to get the F100 out of the driveway.
Measured about 22" on average just east of Rogers.
Nice! At least it's supposed to get up into the 50s this weekend. That'll get rid of the crap, though knowing the weather around here...it will snow another 3-4 FEET around the end of the month.
