ok guys here is my problem. my old truck a 2000 f150 5.4L 2wd long bed (9inch lift on 35's) had a problem about a month ago. While driving home my engine oil pressure light came on. (which it has done before). in the past that i just changed the oil and it was fine the light would go off for 2 or 3 thousand miles. so as usual i went strait home and changed oil and filter. oh but first let me say this time when i removed the oil fill cap it had white GUNK on it. i know not a good sign to have moisture in your engine. so i changed oil and filter then drove less then a mile and heard a horrendous knocking..... i turned around to go back to the house and within 50 or 60 feet the truck almost sounded like it seased up then died. (a lowd squeel then truck died) i thought immediately that i just blew up the motor. but i wanted to see if it would still turn over so i tryed and it STARTED. i quickly shut it off in relief that it wasnt completly blown up. (hopefully) so my question is "Is it a lifter issue?" i have been told by a couple local idiots that its a lifter. please if you have experiance in this let me know what you think it is and if it is fixable in my shop. i have a full shop lift and all the tools just not much of an ENGINE guy. thanks a hole heap
Modulars do not have lifters. The camshaft rides above the followers, and they are kept in place and ride on top of lash adjusters.
You have a problem if you're hearing the lash adjusters tapping when the engine is running.
You need to get it in the shop and do some investigating.
Pull the cam covers to inspect the cam journals. If you've ran the engine for any length of time with little or no oil pressure, the heads are likely expensive paperweights.
You need to know real, actual oil pressure. If it's low-you need to know why.

hey thanks a lot im going to go rip it down today. so your saying my slack adjusters may be bad. thats not that hard to replace right just pull em out and put new ones in? what do you think my worst case scenario is.

No, that's not what I'm saying. If the lash adjusters are tapping, then you need to know why there's no oil pressure at the cylinder heads.
