i have a 5.4 1997 F150 with a flowmaster 70 series and well...thats it, i got dusted by my buddies 5.3 GMC last night and quite frankly i'm pissed, how can i hop this thing up with out s/c it or goin completely buck nutty?? reprogram or a chip? or what??
No amount of chipping is going to give you the power that a supercharger does but it will give you great bang for the buck.
With a Diablo chip you're looking at roughly 25 HP, a little less with the Superchips. If you're in California, go with the Superchips due to its CARB certification.
A couple of things to consider, what's his truck's gear ratio and yours? All things being equal, a truck with a 4.11 ratio will launch quicker than a 3.75 (at the expense of mileage.
i've got the 4:11 he's got a 3:55 i had him of the line but it seems he had more mid range, i'm in indiana and theres no emision test here what so ever
Diablo's the way to go then. I can't guarantee you'll beat him, but it will give you more throughout the entire RPM range. The engine just may be "running out of breath" due to the higher RPM's you're pulling and an intake kit might help.
