I need to replace my wtr temp gauge. I've gone through 2 in 1 1/2 yrs. I thought the mechanical type was the best, but they don't seem to hold up. I know that could have something to do with the cheap Sunpro brand.
I'm looking at the SW gauges. Would I be better off using the electrical type for the wtr temp?
that would be personal preference. the mechanical gauge is more accurate, but a pia sometimes to install. if the line gets kinked, or a hole wears in it it is useless. the modern gauge's have come along way, just like computer, TVs etc. the last street rod I built has Dakota's in it, and I think they are accurate. plus the fact they look good

Most of SunPro's line is cheap, made in China stuff. I suggest you try some of Stewart Warner's over the road truck line, avail at trucking parts centers. I've installed it several times and it works. Not as cool as the SP, though.
The lopey idle of your mill might be destroying the bourbon tube, though, and I'm not aware of a gauge that will hold up long in vibration. Have you considered electrics? They're way better than years ago....
