Cool Another E4OD problem

So I had my E4OD rebuilt and have had nothing but problems. It is in a 94 F-150 with the 5.9L so here is what I have put up with so far.
1st: Shudder in 3rd, pulled tranny back out and replaced torque converter shudder fixed
2nd: Keeps blowing out the front seal, original person to rebuild it closed up shop skipped town. Took it to another shop and they said the pressure was to high and they could fix it by drilling some bypass passage in the pump? never heard of that so I took it out AGAIN and took it to them they took out the pump and found mud in the pump, I asked like dirt mud and they said that is what it looked like weird don't know how that got in there but they did there magic on the front pump and now the pressures are normal.
3rd: Shifted so hard it would give you whip lash actually pulled a code on that one and it came up with a VSS sensor fail I thought easy enough put in a new VSS sensor and guess what it did not fix the problem so after alot of reading and researching found out the PSOM module was defective, they of course don't make that anymore so I found a used instrument cluster and that fixed that problem.
So last problem: It will not start in 1st gear when you come to a complete stop. It will start in 2nd or 3rd? but if you put it in second it starts fine and then shift into D it acts fine shifts great any ideas? Should I replace the solenoid pack? Could that be a possible solution and if so can I replace the pack without A: taking the darn thing completely out again and B: without taking the valve body apart? I checked the wiring harness it is in good shape so I don't think that is the problem. Is there any pinout and test procedures for the wiring harness like there is for the MLPS if so could someone please e-mail that information because I am about ready to run this thing off a cliff just to see it burn.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I feel your pain.
All the tranny guys in my town are full of hot air when it comes to E4OD.
I have several vehicles with the tranny, and I have tried local rebuilds and Ford reman.
They all have been nightmares. I can't keep an E4OD going.
I am beginning to think I will have to learn how to rebuild if I want one done right.

Anyway, some of your symptoms sound like a bad MLPS.
The MLPS is notorious for going bad without warning and without codes.
A bad MLPS will destroy an E4OD in short order too if left ignored... Ask me how I know.

Edit:
I misread what you were getting at with the MLPS...
I still believe it could be at least misadjusted.
That could explain the no-go issue in 1st gear.

It sounds like someone did a shoddy rebuild job on that transmission. Usually these things have too low of pressure. Not sure what they're talking about on mud. If there was sludge or trash all in the pump, it's going to be all in the valve body and torque converter also, and with it being in the valve body, it can create some weird shifting issues. '94 was the last year before they had all the bugs worked out of the transmission.

I'll take a stab at this one. Like some others have said if there is debris in the pump then its safe to assume its all throughout the transmission. If its truly "mud" you'll grind yourself up. Has the torque converter been swapped? It will be the where most of the debris will be located. At the very least I would pull the pan and check the condition of everything I could lay eyes on. The best solution is to get a full gasket set and pull that unit and go through it to be sure everything is clean and replace the torque converter. Considering all the problems you've experienced, you may be better off in the long run by going through it. These transmissions aren't that hard to work on. Take you time and you'll get it right.

The weirdness in the shifting is probably electrical. There have been instances on this board of a diagnosed bad PSOM that have been finally traced to bad instrument cluster connections. The other thing is a possible misaligned MPLS.

I'm getting ready to do mine and am throwing the update book at it to build it for pulling. I plan on documenting it fully for everybody.
