2000 f350 v10 p0340 code
New hear, 1st post. A few weeks ago my 2000 f350 vf10 with 140,000 miles began running quite rough, mostly under a load. No service engine soon light came on. I changed Spark plugs, boots and wires, along with fuel and air filters and pcv valve and hose elbow. A couple of the boots where definitely wet, so I dried holes with compressed air and installed new parts with dielectric grease. The majority of the missing went away but still has an intermittent miss at idle. Yesterday the service engine soon light came on so I went and borrowed a code reader from the local auto parts store and got P0340 CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR A CIRCUIT BANK 1 OR SINGLE SENSOR as a reading. Probably a total coincidence but over the last few days the tranny has intermittently been hanging in 1st gear longer than normal then slamming into 2nd. Transmission problem aside, should I just replace the cam position sensor and see what happens? Any ideas on the transmission also?
Thanks in advance.
Camshaft Position Test Method:
TESTING : 1- Check for battery voltage to the camshaft position sensor with the ignition key ON (engine not running ). 2- Remove the camshaft sensor from the engine and place it on a clean workbench. Check the AC voltage output . Connect the probes of a voltmeter set on the AC scale onto the camshaft sensor and observe that it produces a voltage pulse as a metal object is passed over the tip of the sensor . If no pulsing voltage signal is produced (if the camshaft sensor does not exhibit any reaction as the magnatic field is broken ) , then replace the camshaft sensor .

Good Luck

I don't have any voltage at the sensor with the key on. I tested by unplugging the sensor and probing the terminals in the connector. I don't see a way to make contact with the probes while it is plugged in. Also pulled the sensor and tested for AC voltage output. Nothing there either. With the engine running I have 14.6 volts at the battery. Does that voltage sound normal?
With the key on ( engine not running ) you should have battery voltage at the sensor ( I think ).
I never had to tackle with this problem before , I am sure someone in the forum will make some suggestion. Good luck .
