I think my hpop is on it's last leg.

It has a small leak at the bottom of it. Probably just the gasket, but the last week or so I have been down on power. I changed the fuel filter already and the oil is rotella syn at 5000 miles. It's getting changed this week. I slowed down to 55 yesterday going up a hill on the cruise with the camper on. It usually holds 70 easy. Also I am getting a slightly longer crank time. 3 seconds maybe when cold instead of nearly instant. No smoke or anything.
I still have the stock PCM so can't see my pressure in a datastream but I am pretty sure that's it. I did look at the oil spouts. All spouting like normal.
I was wondering, since you all have me convinced on a 17 degree hpop, can I get one for a 94? Or do I need to pull my engine and swap the front cover and oil pan? They are leaking a bit too. It wouldn't hurt. I'm just not wanting to get into that right now.

Oh and will a 17 deg. be ok on stock injectors and stock programming? I ain't got money for all of that right now but I need to keep my truck in top shape.

You can put a 17* in a 94 but you would have to get Joey to swap the gutts from the 17* to the 94's 15*. The 17* would be fine with stock injectors and no tunes

I wonder what the cheapest way to go about that is? I have a spare 97 pump that needs rebuilt but not another 94 pump. The 94 has the anti drainback in the pump.
It's our only vehicle too so unless we rent a car for a couple days I have to tear it down and have it back together and running that day. Or on a weekend.

Contact Joey, he might have a '94 core, use your 17° for parts, then you send your 15° back to him when you swap the new pump in.

X's 2 for what Jim said. Get in touch with Joey, I'm sure he'll be able to work something out for you.

I rebuilt the IPR and changed all the o rings last year. This has been an intermittant problem that is getting worse. Sometimes when I come to a stop it gets rough for a few minutes. That's telling me low pressure. Pulling hills heavy really sucks now. I put a gauge on at idle one day but couldn't get it to act up at all. The oil never got hot just sitting there. My gauge hose isn't long enough to see it running.

Also when I first start it up, I can flip the switch for fast idle, turn it up to 1500 and in a minute it will be at 2000. That's weird too. If I do it when it's running rough it will do the same thing too. I'm pretty sure it's not sucking air. I did the extra oil and jack it up in the back test a couple times.

RR, when I was having problems a few years back I put the gauge out behind the hood on the cowl and in the front of the hood I strapped it down. Went for a ride and saw what the pressures were. Just a thought because my hose was to short also. OK, OK lets here all the laughs!!!! LOL

Are you setting a CEL? Would a worn out pump set a CEL I guess?

If your hose is short and pump is weak, arch your back or you'll pizz on your feet!

you guys are just too funny sometimes.
I know you won't always get a cel for low pressure. It's a little more to it than that. It's looking for low pressure under certain conditions. Mine did once going up a steep mountain in New Mexico but that was the only time.

I have been emailing Joey about a new pump. It looks like I'm gonna send him my 97 pump to get modded and rebuilt. If anyone wants to come help me with the conversion then I can use it. I have to pull the motor, change the front cover, oil pan and pick up tube.
All stuff that has needed to be done anyway. I'm still fighting that oil cooler gasket leak and several places on the pan are leaking. I HATE leaks!

I hate, hate leaks. That's one of my pet peeves. RR, I thought you were in the process of rebuilding a PSD, I remember the pictures anyway.

Justin, that rhymes, you should have been a poet, LOL.

I am but have to wait till I get some hay harvested in the spring to finish it. That is my play money. right now I just need it running right and reliable. For my engines, anything less than perfect just isn't acceptable. I've broke down twice now off road in my life. One time took a bull dozer and a whole lot of money to get out. The other time I got rescued by a hells angeles group out in the middle of nowhere california mountains. They were cool but I don't want to do it again. They even fixed my car for me. I think gangs are a little less honorable to put it mildly these days.
