E-350 Dually Van/53 COE OR Van Project

I'm stoked to find a forum that deals with a new interest of mine...Having always been a diehard bowtie guy, but my interest is changing as of late so I am trying to expand my knowledge as my projects change and interests evolve...
I have a couple interesting pieces I am considering building into an
"everyday driver"...I bought a low mile 1991 E-350 shortbus with 110Kmiles, New trans/tires/ highly maintained, stripped all the body and cab off and now have a complete chassis ready for a different cab or body...
I also have a 1953 C-500 COE I was considering putting this cab on the chassis or I also recently bought a 1992 E-250 3/4 van I was also considering putting on the dually chassis....I am not versed in Ford diesels as much as other projects I've built but was looking for some feedback or imput about these conversions...I do feel I should have started with a powerstoke chassis instead of the one I have...I like the 53' COE dually idea as well as a dually van towing machine...
I've become facinated by the powerstroke dually 4x4 vans...

Welcome to FTE!

I take it your 91 dually has the diesel? The 7.3L IDI is a great engine. They are dead simple and extremely dependable. Plus with some free flowing exhaust they can sound like a built big block gas engine. The IDI won't make huge HP #'s like the powerstroke can. But they make enough torque that they can still be a blast to drive. And if yours doesn't have a turbo you can add one to it without too much trouble.

I really love the old Fords so I think putting your 53 cab over body on the E350 chassis would be very cool! I've wanted to build a 53-56 Ford COE for a long time. And a Diesel powered dually COE would be wicked!

But putting a 92 E250 body on the E350 dually chassis would be a fun project too. I've got a 96 E250 sitting in my driveway right now. The 92 is a newer/different body style then the 91. So you might end up having to modify or relocate the body mounts. And there's a good chance you'll need to adjust the E350's wheel base to work with your E250 body.

Which ever way you decide to go with the project it sounds like it will be cool.

If you need any info on your diesel check out the pre-powerstroke forumn here or check out 6.9L IH & 7.3L IDI Diesels - Oilburners.net They are a great group of guys that really know their way around the 6.9L/7.3L IDI's. I've got a 1991 Ford F-Super duty with the 7.3L IDI and there's no way I 'd ever swap it out for a power stroke.

If you decide to go with a power stroke be prepared to have to deal with all the wiring and computers for it. But if you do feel free to send your IDI my way. Your 53 COE too, if you don't want it!

The way I do it is I set up a free account at Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket

Then upload your pictures. Then once you have the pictures loaded in an album scroll onto a picture with your mouse. A drop down menu will show up. Go down to IMG code and click on the link. It will automatically copy the link. Then just paste the copy in your post and presto you have a pic posted. Nothing to it.

Yea it's really pretty solid...has a lil rust on the back of the cab but it'll be cut out when I open the rear of the cab for my vintage hot-shot aluminum sleeper box...
