Hi, I am trying to pull a 5.4 from a 98 expedition 4x4, I have everthing disconnected and have the engine hanging by the crane, trans jacked up level but the engine wont separate from the trans. I have all the bolts removed, and also the 4 torque converter nuts removed. Ihave pryed and jumped on the engine but it wont give. The only thing I'm not sure of is the 4 converter nuts, is there something else to remove on the converter or am I missing something? thanks
Henry
If you're absolutely sure you have all the bellhousing bolts out the problem is probably the engine to bellhousing dowels are stuck in the bellhousing. I've seen some that I've had to pry realllly hard to seperate. Sometimes you can beat a screwdriver in between the block and bellhousing to get it started then pry and wiggle from there. Of course I wont admit to ever beating on my screwdrivers or using them as prybars or chisels or anything
Just as a side note. On the newer trucks quite often we pull the body off the frame to remove the engine. It is actually quite easy to do and saves time....if you have a good 2 post hoist to lift the body with. There are even instructions with pictures to do that at http://flatratetech.com/images/nav_how_to.htm
Thanks for the reply, I finally got it apart, the body removal thing would be great had I done this in my shop, but I was doing a "favor" for a friend and did it in my garage. I think I was just worried about prying too hard but she came free. Thanks again and great site!
