I just purchased a 1975 supercab 4x4 3/4 ton frame shortened four inches w/a crewcab from a 1976 mounted on top. My question is, I'd eventually like to lift this truck up like four inches. It already sits up very high, I'm wondering if it is a highboy??? It doesn't have the original drivetrain, now it has a dana 44 front, dana 60 rear, a 400cid and a four speed tranny w/a xfer case, not sure which one. So, does anybody know if my truck is a highboy, and if it is, where should I look to find suspension/body lifts for it? Thank you in advance!
A 75 F-250 should be a highboy. It should have a C-6 (auto) or NP435 (4-sp) and a divorce mounted NP205 T-case. There are a couple of places out there that have lifts for Highboys but they are kinda pricey. A 4" lift runs like $500 w/o shocks or rear springs. Here's a place that has the lifts : http://www.ntwonline.com/ntw0799/pages/ford1.html
Skyjacker and Superlift, i believe, have springs for highboys. Any dealer that carries these brands should be able to get them.
Here's a little trick I thought about trying on mine. Take the rear springs from an F-150 and mount them in the front of the highboy. Highboy front springs are 3" wide and about 54" long which is really close to the same length as a standard rear spring for an F-150. You would have to drill a new center pin (F-150 pins are offset where highboy's pin is pretty much centered). I believe this would provide several inches of lift (F-150 springs have alot more arch) and rear springs could be picked up out of a junkyard for pretty cheap.
(F-150 springs have alot more arch) there is one problem with this ideal the f-150 will be weeker(softer ride) and may droop before long when I lift my trucks I use leaf packs from 1 tons up to 2 ton trucks usally the 2 ton front will fit the front of you ford a couple of hours of measuring in the junk yard can save you some bucks take a look at my gallery the front lift has 2 ton springs under it and the back lift are 1 ton springs
I did a 3" Body lift on my Highboy and am in the process of adding a homemade 2" susspension lift. Replacing the front spring shackles with longer ones (drawn up in AutoCAD and burned on a computer burn table out of 3/8" plate) then doing a reverse shackle flip on the rear. About $10 worth of hardware for 2"'s of lift.
Superlift and Skyjacker both have 4" suspension lifts available. They also have 3" body lifts. Thats the biggest you can get before custom. 44s will probably fit with 7" of lift
I am building a Hi-boy and installed a Sky Jacker 4" lift last week. It cost me $900 and included front and rear springs and new U-bolts for the front which you don't need. So basically your paying the money for 4 new springs. The fronts were 6" springs for a normal truck the rears are Hi-boy only 2 1/4" wide 4" lift springs. And yes with a 4" susp and 2" body mine clears brand new 44" Boggers on 14" wide wheels with a little mod to front fenders, nothing noticeable.
This is my first post and Don't know if this has been discussed somewhere else.
I have seen some superdutys with a lift and they sag a lot in the rear.
Does the four inch Skyjacker sag in the rear or does it have positive rake.
I have a 76 highboy with shot springs so I am looking for a kit with springs. What is the distance after the (4 inch skyjacker with springs)lift from the center of the rear wheel and the top of the wheel well.
I want ot jack my truck up and see what it will look like when lifted.
