Apologies if this has been covered. I couldn't find a mention of this speciic problem. I've got a 2010 F150 FX4 SCREW. I've had it almost a year and the other day, for the first time, the traction control light cam eon for no apparent reason. It's now done this twice. I've started it up and the little fishtail image shows up next to the odometer, just like when you turn the TC off. It seems to drive fine, but I'm concerned. After I get where I'm going and shut it off and let it set for a while, it's fine. The light doesn't come back on. I called the dealer and the guy said it wasn't anything to worry about, the truck's diagnostics probably solved the problem since the light went off. As I'm new to Fords (having been a longtime GMC driver), I'm still learning the quirks.
Mine has done this 2 or 3 times as well. It always goes off though.
I've asked the dealer about it when I brought it in for oil change/other services but they said it never has left a trouble code so it must have fixed itself.
I have not had it happen in mine. However it wouldn't be a bad idea the next time you have it at the dealer to have them check it out. That way you have it documented in case it does turn out to be a problem. Just my .02
Oh, Welcome to FTE also!
If I am not mistaken, the traction control probably works off of the wheel speed sensors. If one of them is sending out sporadic or erroneous tones, it could trigger the traction control parameters & indicator. Just a thought...
The Wheel Speed Sensors are placed in a vulnerable location, so if you've been offroading there is a chance you have damaged one. They are located in front of and just below where the rear axle connects to the rear brake assembly. Its the only plug in looking thing down there.

If I'm not mistaken, this post has a picture of the speed sensor at the rear wheels -- definitely a "weak link":
For $50, it seems like it would protect the sensor -- as someone else mentioned, probably a grommet would be a good addition. Unfortunately, much of the cable is still "in the elements".
