sudden cel

Driving in to work 65 miles. 45 of those miles were in 4 hi on barely plowed roads. Didn't go over 50mph. Never do in 4wd. Well in the 3hrs it took me to drive into work the cel would come on for 30seconds or so then turn off. In 3hrs it did it like 4 times. Now on lunchbreak jaming out to the radio I turn truck on to let battery charge and warm up. Cel is on constant. Turn off then bak on and still a cel. Never got one before. Wut do ya think it is? How do I check it? I know there a wrightup somewhere on here... thanx

Assuming your truck is OBD-I, use this: Ford Fuel Injection » How To Run a Self-Test

It could be about a billion different things. Pull the codes and go from there.

A code reader is easier if you have one.

well he ran the code reader 2day.. wouldnt tell me what exact codes came up but he said he cleared them all and it said my o2 is reading rich. and that my timing chains need to be replaced. it wasnt getting an exact reading on timing bc it was jumping back and forth. said the timing chains have play in them which is what is making my timing offwhich is making it high idle. i trust my dad. he is the family mechanic and he works on anything i buy that i cant do or dont want to do. never had a problem with his work. BUT DOES THIS SOUND RIGHT? it does need tuneup and oil change since i havnt done that yet since i purchased it 2 months ago.

Without knowing what the codes actually were as well as not physically seeing what the timing was doing it is pure speculation from here what the problem is. Varying timing is a common problem on high mileage engines.

If the O2 sensor was reading rich then you most likely do not have the usual vacuum leak causing the high idle. I would check the fuel pressure regulator for signs of a faulty diaphragm before going too far into the project. A full tuneup with plugs/wires/cap/rotor/filters is always a good suggestion as well.
