On my 95 f-150 the motor started to run very rough, i noticed the over drive light on my shifter is flashing. Is there a connetion between the two problems.
If your '95 is EEC-IV (2 connectors under hood near L hinge), you can pull the codes yourself to see what the computer has detected.

If it's OBD-II (blue connector under center of dash), you can take it to many parts stores & have the codes read & decoded free.
In either case, make sure the codes are erased after you've read them.
Some of the '95s have the EECIV under the hood and the OBDII under the dash. In those cases, the OBDII connector does not work. I was told that Ford did this in '95 since it was the transition year from EECIV to OBDII. Either way, Autozone can pull the codes for you.
If the light is flashing a consistant and repetitive, On-Off-On-Off pattern, it is probably a trani code.
If the light's flashing is inconsistant, and has no pattern to it's flashing, it is most probably unrealated. The lights have a tendancy to start to ficker when the bulb/switch at the end of the shifter are on the way out. (Scarred me as well) Another common problem is that the two wires running up the shifter lever to the O/D light gets damaged in the column, and causes the light to operate inconsistantly.
Did the light start flashing at the same time it started to run poorly.
