Looking for clarification on tire ratings

I am looking at tires, because that time is coming soon, and just need some explanation based on my lack of ratings knowledge. Some tires will have D or E ratings and I know the E rated tires are able to handle loads better. However I'll see two similar size tires (or completely different) and one is D rated at 3195lbs @ 50psi, and the other E rated at 3195 @85psi. Since they are essentially rated to carry the same load from what I read is the E rated just a stiffer tire? And info is appreciated. I use my truck for hauling and towing, sometimes at max load. Thanks for any help.

Yes, for everything else being equal, the "E" rated tired would be stiffer. On a Super Duty I have seen some owners complain about the softer tires feeling squishy, especially when towing.
